Coronation Street  is a UK Soap which was created by  writer Tony Warren and first aired in the UK on December 9th 1960.

 

Originally Tony  Warren was supposed to be commissioned to write 13 episodes but , the show became so popular with the public that it was signed on for  more episodes.

 

Corrie as lovingly nicknamed by the fans first aired in Canada in 1966

 

52 years later its still going strong, the characters are realistic, funny and they always make you shake your head because no matter the situation, the actors can turn a scene into a giggle festival.

 

There have been the odd times where I've actually said Oh my god I can't believe they said that , or they just pull at your heart strings and that endears me and so many other viewers to them even more.

 

My earliest memory of watching Corrie was at age seven watching the character Bette Lynch with her bee hive hair do, leopard print clothes, quick wit and the flirtacious side she showed to the numerous male population of Weatherfield.

 

Another brassy lady was Elsie Tanner , she was a red head with a taste for whisky, and tendency to be branded a good time girl, very much like Bette. Both women had been labeled the tarts with a heart, but for me they symbolized much much more. They were the women that I looked up too, the women that would not be shy about telling you what they thought and would not flaming care who heard them.

 

Then you have the mums of the street who struggle to raise their kids, the mums that everyone loves to hate especially the likes of  Tracey Barlow who is just a spiteful bitch who takes pleasure in everyone else's misfortunes. Right along side her is the bitchy Sally Webster who is runs off at the mouth and never quite gets it that the spiteful bitchy comments she makes are hurtful to others and that one one else agrees with her when she spouts off about stuff she can and won't ever understand. 

 

The nosey neighbours are also part and parcel of the weathervfield environment who feel they have to tell everyone everything after they've heard a bit of gossip about everyone else on the street. Sometimes the gossip bites them on the ass and they come to learn that the people they are gossiping about will give them a dose of truth that will shut them up. Its not just the women who are gossipy and annoying either its the men too, they don't shy away from bad mouthing, telliing the other residents about other people's business

 

The community of Weatherfield on the whole consists of many shops, including a bookies,  a factory ,a cafe, a pub, the local news agents shop , the corner shop , the kebab shop and the many residential homes that are the main focus of the show along with its characters.

 

 

The storylines are sometimes gritty, sad and sometimes we wish they storylines would just be done with especially if we do not like a certain character who is the main focus of a storyline.

 

The show has had many fires in the factory, a tram crash, rape storylines, murders, and generally every day stuff that the families go through money troubles, teen pregnancies, day to day working and visiting the pub and being there as a community to help their fellow neighbours if they need it.

 

 

 This is part of the reason why  Coronation Street fans everywhere stop what they are doing when the show is on because no matter what the situation we know the show holds our attention and we love it
