Heart Beat became a family favourite after a close family friend introduced us to the series back in 1999 , that friend died a year later, but as we became more and more enthralled with the show , it made us feel closer to that friend whom we lost so long ago.

Heart beat is a british series that began as a series of books and was created by Keith Richardson and first aired in the UK on April 10th 1992.

It is a police drama that surrounds the coppers of the fictional village of Aidensfield Yorkshire as well as its colourful residents.

Like Emmerdale is an emmerald amongt a sea of diamonds, its filled with criminal activities, bumbling cops who have to help the local farmers when their live stock goes astray, the occasional light hearted moments, and its set in the 1960's.

Resident poachers Peggy Armstrong, Claude Green Grass and Vernon Scripts all infuriate and keep the local bobbies busy on a weekly basis. But for the fans they make us snicker with their stupidty and their gall of trying to out wit the cops.

The local Cops Nick Rowan, Oscar Blaketon, Mike bradley, Phil Bellamy , Steve Crane , Rob Walker ,  Geoff Younger, Joe Mason, Seargant  Craddock, Seargant Nokes, Seargeant Merton , Seargant Miller   and Alf ventress were the first cops featured on the show whom tried their damndest to keep law and order in check , while having to deal with their own lives and personal  issues.

Lord Ashfordly over at  Ashfordly Hall  is another colourful residnet  whose snooty , and full of himsel and whom always called the coppers in to get  Claude, Peggy and  Vernon and other interlopers off his land.

Then we have the local garage and funeral home run by  Vernon and  Bernard Scripts, whom employed  local buffoon  David StockWell and Rosie Cartwright.

The doctors office on the show has had its revolving door with the doctors and nurses which drove me crazy for a time , but all in all they all breathed a breath of fresh air to the show over the years.

The ones who truth stood out the most for me were Kate  Rowan who died of cancer after having her baby daughter , Dr Helen Walker whom was married to  Pc Rob Walker and Dr Liz Merrick. Maggie Bolton  Jenny Merton, and Nurse Carol Cassidy.

But my favourite females on the show would have to be Rosie Cartwright, Gina Ward and the ditzy Dawn Ward whom all made their mark on the show , being the strong willed and independent women that thtey were.

In  2007  Pc Bellamy married  Barmaid Gina Ward, but he soon died during a stake out  and his fellow officer accidently  shot him. Phil  left behind a grieving wife , whom later found out she was pregnant and named the child  Philip  Oscar Bellamy , after her dead husband and her uncle Oscar whom was a crusty old bugger on the outside , but sweet and caring on the inside, he made sure Gina and baby Philip were wanting for nothing and looked out for them after  Phil Senior died.

Also in  2007 Rosie had a romance with a vicar and a sheep shearer and chose the  sheep shearer over the  vicar and pc younger who was also vying for her attention. Rosie left for Australia in with the sheep shearer but was later presumed dead when   Joe and DC Dawson found her multilated passport her body was never found.

In 2011 Heart Beat decided to call it a day, sadly this was the end of an era and the end of a delightful series that enchanted their viewers, and also made ex pats feel like they were transported back home.
