General Hospial is an American soap opera that premiered on tv in April 1963 and was created by Frank and Doris Hursely.

 

It mainly centred around the hospital staff at Port Charles General Hospital , but in the 1980's that all changed when Luke Spencer and Laura Webber were embroiled in a fight with the mob and were on the run from Frank Smith and his men.

 

This mob storyline was on when I first started watching the show had me hook line and sinker. I loved the Luke and Laura dynamic, and then Luke and Laura became involved with Robert Scorpio and the ice princess fight with the Cassadines.

 

 I remember thinking that  Helena Cassadine was the coolest bad bitch ever and to this day I still think she is. Aside from the Luke and Laura mob stuff, they had some pretty amazing storylines over the years most of which did take part in the hospital. My most favourite memory from whatching GH as a kid was when Noah Drake was charming the ladies, Robin Scorpio was presented as  Robert's daughter by Anna Devane and Frisco and Felicia were helping catch the bad guys.

 

But for me the storylines that stand out in my mind as the hardest to watch were the deaths of the children of the core characters on the show.

 

It broke everyone's hearts when  BJ Jones died after being a victim in a school bus crash, along with the death of Jake Spencer who was hit and killed by an on coming vehicle. Georgie Jones and  Emily Quartermaine were murdered in 2007 and most recently they killed off  Robin Scorpio the daughter of Anna and Robert Scorpio. It was a hard pill for us long time fans to swallow when they killed off Robin. Kimberly Mccullough had joined the show in 1985 and we watched her grow up on screen and turn into the beautiful lady she is today. Losing Robin for us fans was like losing a family member it was absolutely devastating to watch.

 

The  other storylines that stick out in my mind are the rape of Elizabeth Webber, the hiv storyline involving  Robin Scorpio, Sonny`s Bi polar storyline and most recently  Kate  Howard`s multiple personality disorder storyline have been a few of the many storylines that have been shown over the years.

 

The kidnappings of Sonny Corinthos' kids was another storyline that was front and centre along with the Merging of  Sam Mccall and Jason Morgan as a couple and they became the Bonnie and Clyde of GH. Fighting to protect those they love and kicking some major ass doing it.

 

The cat fights on GH are legendary, but the other storylines that grabbed my attention were the virus storyline, the metrocourt Explosion, the nurses balls, the reading of the Christmas story and of course the fires and explosions that became a full force thing for us viewers to see on a regular basis.

 

With the internet these days the fans have a forum to go to discuss the show and have fun with their online friends that they met over the message boards

 

The fans can have a pile of fun doing this , but some times they have rather heated arguments over their favourite couples, an example of this is when Jason Morgan slept with  Elizabeth Spencer and it started a fire storm of board wars between  Liason fans and  Jasam fans. These board wars are still around and I am glad I got a front row seat to see the fireworks go off.

 

All in all GH has kicked some serious ass over the years and this fan is loving every minute of it.
