Emmerdale is a Yorkshire Dales Uk soap and it was created by  Kevin Laffan

It first aired in the Uk on October 16th 1972 and it was orginally was called Emmerdale Farm as it was set on Emmerdale farm in Beckindale  Yorkshire.

In 1989 they changed the name of the show to Emmerdale and the town of Beckindale soon became knows as Emmerdale as well.

What I personally love about Emmerdale is that its not like any other soap I've seen its not a city based soap and takes place in a small village very much like the one my family comes from.

The show first came into my eye sight in 2000 and I was fixated with it from the start, everything about it stands out, the  characters are normal every day people, they don't wear the latest fashions, or parade around flashing diamonds on their hands, but what they do have is families who stand together as one, loving and hating each other all at once and we get the occasional storylines that just make you say ok what the hell?

Emmerdale is light hearted at times, yet they can rip your heart out especially with storylines like when Shadragh Dingle while drunk fell into the river and died, his family chose to celebrate his funeral by each drinking out of a can of beer and telling what each of them loved or hated about him and in the end it was Cain whom shocked me the most  he took a sip of beer and threw the open can on top of the  coffin. Disrespetful at best I was not impressed with that.

Over the years Emmerdale had fires, and abuse storylines, jilted lovers at the altar, a hidden teen pregnacy, murders and the list goes on and on. The one storyline on Emmerdale that strikes me the most was when Holly the daughter of John and Moira Barton became addicted to drugs and the family faught like hell to  get her clean and sober. They locked the girl in her room to try and make her get clean and sober and it truly was hard to watch.

I love the Dingles on the show most of all because they are hard working people, who just don't have the respect from everyone else. They are treated like scum because they are scum and they make no apologies for it. They are proud of who they are  and they don't give a rats behind what the other villagers think of them.

All in all Emmerdale is truly a emmerald in a sea of  diamonds it stands out amongst the rest simply because its not flashy or filled with mob related storylines, it may have the odd affair thrown in , but the heart and soul of this show is its beautiful setting and the colourful people who inhabit it. Breathtaking, funny , awe inspiring, can anger you sometimes but, it makes you feel like your back home that's what Emmerdale does to draw me in every week.
